What do you do when you feel like you're totally being taken advantage of by the management? They continue to give your time and services away for free or cheaply and take no notice of your pleas for change. Well 9 times out of 10 it's time to leave that clinic.

In this episode I share some tips to consider when choosing a new clinic location and negotiating the terms of your rent and associated services. Yes, it can be a daunting prospect to pick up and move clinics, but it's something you don't need to rush.

Although your current work situation may be far from ideal it is still a source of income for you. You can start to look around and negotiate terms for a new clinic while maintaining availability at your current practice.

Take your time. You are in control. Be fussy. Choose carefully and negotiate wisely.

Massage Marketing | Stop Assuming That Everyone Knows What You Do

In this episode I discuss the importance of communicating exactly what type of massage you do and the tangible benefits your treatments bring to your clients.

Simply stating that you're a 'massage therapist' doesn't do you or your prospective client any good.

If the client's idea of massage is a nice relaxing treatment in a spa environment and they come to you only to receive a deep tissue massage then they won't think very highly of your service, no matter how good your treatment is.

There was a mismatch between what the client was expecting and the treatment that was supplied.

What's worse if a client comes to you and requests a treatment style that isn't one of your strong points, then you will be judged on your ability to deliver that treatment and not on your area of real expertise.

Once you are clear in your communication your marketing becomes laser focused. You will be able to talk in terms that your ideal client can relate to and you will start to attract the type of client you work best with.

Massage Marketing | The Importance of Keeping in Contact with Your Massage Clients

What's the first thing that comes to mind when someone tells you that to succeed in your massage business you have to have a website? If you're like a lot of my massage friends then I'm sure that statement would make your blood run cold.

The truth is while having a website can be good for marketing it definitely isn't something you need from the outset.

On the other hand, having a web presence is pretty much expected. This can easily be achieved through free services such as Twitter and Facebook Business pages.

You can also use a free service to send out email newsletters to up to 2000 clients. Once your client list grows past that you would have to upgrade to one of their very affordable paid plans.

Massage Marketing | Don’t Become the Massage Martyr

How many times have you heard or used the phrase, “Oh well, I'm not in massage for the money”, or “You'll never make money with massage”?

The point is this just isn't true.

Many massage therapists believe just because they have a gift, that just because they can heal and bring about positive change in people's lives they should give this gift away for almost nothing.

They fall into the Massage Martyrdom Trap.

Don't! If you think this way. Stop!

You have every right to charge what your worth, and if you're getting results, then you have the right to charge a good price.

If you give of yourself and don't receive fair reward for your work you will burn yourself out and won't be in a position to help as many people as you could have.

Massage Marketing | If You Do This Your Massage Business Will Fail

If you simply follow what the majority of massage therapists do when setting up their business and marketing plan then there is a fair chance that like the most of them you will be out of business within 5 years.

Before you even look at what you are going to print on your business card, clinic signage and brochures, you should identify who your ideal client is.

Do some research into what types of services aren't being offered in your area. Look at client needs. Once you establish a need you can then promote yourself as a specialist in that area.

When you have a clear picture as to what is that your ideal client needs then your marketing message becomes very clear. You can speak directly to that client.

It is far easier to get referrals from your professional network, family, friends and clients, when they know exactly what it is you do.

Massage Marketing | Avoid This Marketing Mistake at All Costs

This episode may sound like a bit of a rant because today I'm talking about my pet peeve - using heavily discounted massage as a marketing strategy.

There are big dangers when a clinic depends on this strategy and in fact I call it 'Death by Discount'.

Filling your books with cheap massage does little to build a list of loyal, regular, full paying clients. More often than not you do nothing but attract discount hunters while your clients develop a deep seated discount mentality.

I'm not saying you shouldn't run the occasional special. I just saying don't simply fall back to slashing your prices every time business gets slow.

If you take the time to develop a marketing and pricing plan, and stick to it, you will eventually find your waiting room full of happy, full paying clients. How quickly you build your list of loyal clients depends entirely on you and how quickly you implement your marketing strategies.

There are a number of ways to offer incentives to your clients without selling your soul.

Before you can start to prepare your marketing material you have to clearly identify the services you offer and the benefits you bring to your prospective clients.

To be truly successful it's not good enough to simply list your qualification and the techniques you use. This is what 97% of your competition are doing and it doesn't work. It means nothing to your prospective clients.
